National Programme for Prevention and Control of Snakebite Envenoming


Vision of Programme:


Vision: To reduce the snakebite deaths in India to such an extent that the vulnerable population is free from fear & impact of snakebite related events and improving the overall welfare of the affected communities.


Activities


  • Capacity building of healthcare professionals
  • Strengthening surveillance of snakebite cases and deaths
  • IEC and community awareness on prevention and first aid.
  • Community outreach in high-risk areas.
  • Intersectoral coordination under a One Health approach
  • Public-private partnerships for snakebite control.
  • Development of guidelines and training resources.
  • Annual monsoon preparedness advisories issued to states and UTs (Attached as Annexure 1)

Objective


To reduce the morbidity, mortality, and its associated complications in humans due to snake bite.
