National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), has, inter-alia, been mandated to administer the Central Sector component of Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PMABHIM), namely, “Strengthening Surveillance of Infectious diseases and Outbreak Response” through six components. Of these, two key components for NCDC branches are:

I. Strengthening of Surveillance through establishment of 30 NCDC State branches, one in 29 States and 1 UT, with an outlay of Rs. 485 cr.

II. Strengthening of Regional Centers for Disease Control, with an outlay of Rs. 357.8 cr, through upgradation of 5 NCDC State Branches to Regional NCDC Centers for 5 Zones of country.

Mandate is establishment of NCDC Regional & State branches to support and boost States/UTs capacity for disease surveillance, outbreak investigation, referral diagnostic services and rapid response, to contain and combat outbreaks, thereby benefitting the local populace.
