   Lab/Unit details: One Laboratory having facilities for maintenance of sandfly(Phlebotomas, argentipes) colony is available at NCDC, Patna Branch.
2. Mandate of the Branch:
   To investigate possible causes of reappearance of Visceral Leishmaniasis (VL) and other aspects of epidemiology and Control, NCDC Patna branch was established in the year 1976 with the following mandate:
   
   • To carry out detailed entomological studies on the presence, distribution, population dynamics of Kala-azar vector, dynamics of transmission and vector control measures.
   • To undertake detailed parasitological surveys to assess the magnitude of problem in the various KA affected districts.
   • To recommend suitable drug therapy and vector control strategy.
   • To develop trained manpower for the effective surveillance and control of Kala-azar.
